About Us

Hui Ho‘oniho is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, based out of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, that focuses on cultural education, renewal and site restoration.

mission

To lay the foundation for the perpetuation, preservation and restoration of Hawaiian cultural values and practices through traditional Hawaiian masonry, uhau humu pōhaku.

vision

Our vision is to implement a "train-the-trainer" program by seeking out representatives from all six districts (Kona, Kohala, Ka'ū, Hāmākua, Hilo and Puna) to become uhau humu pōhaku instructors or alakaʻi. Upon certification, each alakaʻi will then be tasked with teaching students, consulting with kūpuna and lineal descendants, and cooperating with their communities to restore cultural sites within their moku.

goal

Our goal is to educate and empower our lāhui with the skills  of uhau humu pōhaku, giving them the capacity to restore the foundations of our cultural landscape, values, practices and our Hawaiian identity.
